Siyob Bazaar, also written Siab or Siyab, offers a welcome change of pace between Samarkand’s monumental ensembles. Comparing produce and watching everyday trade can be more interesting than simply searching for souvenirs.

Start with a few products

Visit the bread stalls, then look at dried fruit, nuts and sweets. Ask before tasting. For goods sold by weight, confirm the price per kilogram, the quantity you want and the final total; a generous display is not necessarily a fixed-price pack.

Buy for your journey

Compare a few sellers, check freshness and request packaging suitable for travel. If taking food abroad, check the destination country’s import rules first. A product being legally sold in Uzbekistan does not mean you can bring it into another country.

Choose your timing

A daytime visit is useful for browsing. Individual stalls may close earlier than the bazaar’s overall advertised hours, even after an official extension. Carry purchases in a small backpack, keep your hands free and separate your shopping money from the rest of your travel funds.
