Bibi-Khanym is striking for its scale. A single photograph rarely conveys the relationship between its large portal, domes and surrounding space. Begin by stepping back to see the whole composition.
Look from large to small
Compare the entrance and domes with the people standing nearby, then move on to the tilework and courtyard details. Separate the building’s documented history from the legends associated with its name: an appealing story is not necessarily an established fact.
Combine it with the bazaar
Siyob Bazaar makes a useful companion visit. Leave shopping until afterwards so you are not carrying heavy bags around the monument. If walking from the Registan, include a water and rest stop rather than treating the midday heat as something to push through.
Ask which ticket you need
Descriptions may refer to both Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the mausoleum. Check exactly which attraction a quoted price covers, along with accessible spaces and last admission. Around 45–60 minutes is a reasonable sightseeing allowance, with additional time for walking and the market.
