Arriving in Samarkand does not put you straight on the Registan. Plan your station transfer before travelling, especially with luggage or a late check-in.
Save the actual entrance
Keep your accommodation’s map pin, booking reference and arrival instructions, not just its name. Ask whether a car can reach the door or whether the final lane must be walked. This is more useful than a general claim that a property is “near the centre”.
Compare transport options
Check an available taxi service against a transfer arranged with your accommodation. If agreeing directly with a driver, confirm the total amount and currency before setting off. Ask whether the quote covers the whole vehicle, luggage and all passengers.
Plan the return as carefully
Use the station printed on your return ticket. Travel time varies with your address, traffic and time of day; a universal “ten minutes to the centre” is unreliable. Arrange luggage storage if check-out precedes departure. Keep the final hour free for reaching the station rather than trying to fit in one last museum.
