With just one day in Samarkand, seeing a few places properly is better than spending the day in transfers. Adapt this independent itinerary to your train tickets and walking pace.
Morning: the main ensemble
Begin at the Registan and allow time for its courtyards and details rather than scheduling another stop half an hour later. Afterwards, pause and decide whether you want to continue on foot.
Midday: Bibi-Khanym and the bazaar
Head towards Bibi-Khanym and Siyob Bazaar. Choose between a fuller monument visit and a longer browse through the stalls. Give lunch its own place in the day rather than eating on the move to squeeze in another attraction.
Afternoon: make a deliberate choice
If your departure time allows, add a separate transfer to Gur-e-Amir. Otherwise, finish within the area you have already chosen. Shah-i-Zinda and the observatory do not have to fit the same day. Save the station shown on your ticket and allow a transport buffer: a good itinerary ends with a calm departure, not a frantic dash from the final façade.
