Two days let you experience different sides of Samarkand, provided you do not repeat the same exhausting walk twice. Organise the days around contrasting kinds of experience.
Day one: architecture and everyday life
Make the Registan the main event of the morning. Continue towards Bibi-Khanym and Siyob Bazaar with breaks as needed. Gur-e-Amir can be a separate later outing rather than another compulsory stop on the same walk. One gentle evening stroll is enough.
Day two: mausoleums and science
Give Shah-i-Zinda its own time, then choose the Afrosiyab Museum or Ulugh Beg’s Observatory. Travellers interested in crafts might prefer a Konigil visit to a second museum. Choosing deliberately is more enjoyable than trying to drive everywhere before departure.
Keep some flexibility
Avoid an intensive morning after arriving late at night. On departure day, allow time to collect luggage and reach the station. Families can leave a long monument-free break in the middle of the day. Suggested visit lengths are only estimates: heat and your interest in details will determine the real pace.
